The Timişoara-based climber is prepping for the last acclimatizing stage, which also involves turning the 7,000 meter camp into the new advanced base camp. Presently, the advanced base camp is situated at 6,200 meters.
“We’re getting ready to climb again on Saturday to the 6,200 meter camp, and on Sunday we’ll keep going up to the second camp, at 7,000 meters. We’ll be spending 4-5 days there, maybe longer, to get acclimatized. It depends on what the weather is going to be like. It is still cold and the wind is blowing higher up. It is early in the season”, said Colibăşanu.
At 7,000 meters, Horia and his team mate Peter Hamor will be prepping the ascent route, and following an acclimatizing period there they will descend to the base camp at Pangboche (4,000 meters) to rest for a few days. According to the expedition’s calendar, the ascent’s climax is planned for the second half of May.
Horia Colibăşanu left for this expedition on March 28th 2018, and will be returning to Romania on June 3rd.
