The Timişoara-based sportsman is now at Everest-Lhotse Base Camp, at 5,400 meters altitude, where he’ll be spending about a week to acclimatize.
His state of health is exceptional, as is that of his expedition partner, Slovakian mountaineer Peter Hamor.
“The team has made it to Base Camp. We are running a 60-member international expedition. Many thanks to our sponsors for having the best Base Camp facilities. We have a bakery tent, as well as a pub tent”, said Colibăşanu.
Regarding the climb, a slight delay of the expedition’s calendar may occur due to problems in the glacier area, at approximately 6,000 meters altitude.
“The Icefall teams (the Sherpas who set up fixed ropes and ladders through the Khumbu Icefall) have suffered an accident and one Sherpa has been hurt. They’ve only managed to get as far as Camp 1. It seems that the glacier between Camp 1 and Camp 2 is heavily crevassed. For now we are on schedule, but if we don’t make it to Camp 2 within a week, we’ll suffer delays”, added Colibăşanu.
Horia Colibăşanu left for this expedition on March 28th 2018, and will be returning on June 3rd.
